Hands on Babies Launches The Pregnancy Bonding Programme

Hands on Babies are delighted to announce the launch of The Pregnancy Bonding Programme a new and innovative evidence based programme designed to provide comprehensive knowledge, skills and a flexible delivery framework to enable Pregnancy Support Practitioners to empower parents to form strong and positive bonds with their unborn babies.

The programme is a flexible workforce development tool that is designed for delivery through both Primary and Specialist care routes to give babies the best possible 'start for life'.

What Is Pregnancy Bonding?

Pregnancy Bonding involves the establishment of a deep and meaningful relationship, characterised by feelings of Love, Care and Attachment between parents and their unborn baby.

Research has shown the Pregnancy Bonding and Attachment are vital for the overall well-being of both the expectant parents and their developing baby, including socio-economic well-being and long term life outcomes.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends that the importance of Bonding and emotional Attachment should be discussed with ALL parents BEFORE birth.

However, a survey of over 1,000 expectant mums commissioned by the Parent-Infant Foundation in 2023 found that 73% of women surveyed said that information and advice about bonding or building a relationship with their baby was NOT GIVEN throughout their pregnancy.

Furthermore, 71% of the women said that they would have liked MORE SUPPORT during their pregnancy to help bond with their unborn baby.

The Pregnancy Bonding Programme aims to address this gap in service provision.
